TRENTON, N.J.\u2014<\/strong>April 24, 2023\u2014The New Jersey Board of Public Utilities (NJBPU<\/a>) today announced the Fiscal Year 23 (FY23) Round one grant recipients for the Electric Vehicle (EV) Tourism program and opened the application for Round two of the FY23 program. The awards for Round one total $755,000 for 43 chargers to 16 applicants across the state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The EV Tourism program provides funding for chargers at tourist locations around the state, encouraging residents and out-of-state travelers to choose New Jersey to charge up and unwind at one of our many destinations, whether a downtown, the shore, or historic site. Round two applicants have until May 22, 2023 to apply for the remaining funds, which total over $5 million.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur Electric Vehicle<\/a> charger incentive programs are national models as we continue to encourage New Jerseyans to go electric,\u201d said NJBPU President Joseph L. Fiordaliso. \u201cOur ultimate goal is to dramatically reduce emissions and help us meet Governor Murphy\u2019s goal of 100 percent clean energy by 2035. It is vital that we increase the number of chargers accessible to EV owners so that they can be confident that no matter where in New Jersey they travel they will have no problem locating a place to charge their vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Here<\/a> are the newest grantees in the EV Tourism Charger Program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In addition to the Round one EV Tourism awards, in FY23 the Board has awarded nearly $2 million in charger awards, building upon the nearly $12 million in awards in FY22. The Multi-Unit Dwelling program has awarded nearly $1.2 million to 63 applicants for 263 chargers in FY23, and nearly half a million dollars has been awarded to 10 local governments for 24 chargers and 10 EVs through the Clean Fleet Program in FY 22. Both programs remain open through June 1, 2023.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Clean Fleet Program provides grants for government entities for the purchase of electric vehicles and chargers. Eligible entities include local schools, municipal commissions, state agencies or boards, state commissions, state universities, community colleges, county government, and county authorities. Applications for this program are accepted until June 1, 2023 or until funds are expended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Multi-Unit Dwelling Program was designed to encourage owners and operators of multi-unit dwellings to provide EV chargers for residents and guests. Eligible multi-unit dwellings are apartments, condominiums, or mixed residential locations that feature a minimum of five units and have dedicated off-street parking. Applications for this program are accepted until June 1, 2023 or until funds are expended.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In FY23, the Board has budgeted $10 million for the Clean Fleet program, $4 million of which is dedicated to local government, $6 million for EV Tourism, and $4 million for MUD. Information on all of the state\u2019s electric vehicle programs can be found here.<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n
